Welcome to Decoded Dad

If you’ve ever felt like you’re holding everything together and nobody’s checking on you, this is for you.

I’m Jeff. I’m a husband to Katie, a dad to Chris and Ollie, an Army EOD veteran, and a security engineer. I’m the guy people call when something breaks. For a long time, I was a lot better at fixing everyone else’s problems than my own.

Somewhere on the road to 40, that stopped working. I had to take a hard look at who I am when I’m not fixing something for someone else: my confidence, my mental health, my marriage, and the kind of dad I want my boys to remember. I grew up with not much, and I’ve learned most of what I know the hard way. Some of it I’m still learning.

Decoded Dad is where I write it down, so you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

What you’ll find here

Everything here falls under three pillars:

  • The Man. Confidence, mental health, and purpose. The inner work that holds everything else up.
  • The Life. Marriage, fatherhood, money, and starting over. Building a life worth coming home to.
  • The Machine. Code, security, and AI in plain language. I got into security because my grandmother was scammed by people hiding behind technology. I’ll show you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to protect the people you love.

How it works

  • A new post here every week.
  • Shorter notes and threads on social media in between.
  • The Sunday Letter: once a month, on a Sunday, one honest letter that rounds up everything by pillar, plus one thing worth your time.

What I won’t do

I won’t sell you fear. The internet already does plenty of that for free. I won’t pretend I have it all figured out, and I won’t waste your time with fluff. If it wouldn’t help a real man or a real family, it doesn’t get published.

And the words are mine. I use AI only as a revision tool, the way you’d use a good editor. The stories and the lessons come from me, real and raw.

I’m here so you can feel confident: like you’re doing your best, getting better than yesterday, and that is enough. Because it is.

If that sounds like something you need, get The Sunday Letter. New here? Start here.

Let’s get into it.

— Jeff
